The Cretan Lute (Laouto)
The Cretan lute, known in Greek as laouto, is a traditional string instrument used in the music of Crete.
It accompanies the Cretan lyra and plays an important role in the rhythmic and harmonic structure of Cretan music.
In the workshop of luthier Nikos Rompogiannakis in Heraklion, Crete, Cretan lutes are handcrafted using carefully selected tonewoods and traditional construction techniques.
